Comedian and voice actor Eugene Mirman sustained serious injuries after his car collided with a toll plaza in Bedford, New Hampshire, on Tuesday. He was rescued from the burning vehicle by a state trooper assigned to Governor Kelly Ayotte’s security team.
The incident occurred just before noon when Mirman’s northbound electric car struck the toll booth and ignited. The governor and her security detail arrived shortly after, and a trooper along with two others helped pull Mirman out of the vehicle through a window, New Hampshire State Police said.
State police colonel Mark Hall described the rescuers’ actions as «heroic,» noting they risked their own safety to help.
Mirman, 51, of Massachusetts, was born in Moscow and raised in the United States. He is best known for voicing Gene Belcher in the animated series Bob’s Burgers and its feature film, and has appeared in Flight of the Conchords, Delocated and Archer.
Governor Ayotte said she and her husband were keeping Mirman in their prayers and thanked those who acted swiftly at the scene. The crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
