Iranian Rights Lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh Detained Again in Tehran

Prominent Iranian human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh has been arrested in Tehran, her family said, raising concerns among activists about a renewed crackdown on civil society.
According to her daughter, Sotoudeh was taken from her home late on April 1, and her whereabouts remain unknown. Authorities reportedly confiscated her phone, laptops, and other electronic devices during the arrest.
Family members say there had been no prior summons or warning from security services. They believe the detention may be linked to recent interviews in which Sotoudeh criticized the government amid ongoing tensions involving Iran.
Activists warn that the arrest comes as authorities tighten restrictions under the backdrop of regional conflict, with reports of internet shutdowns and limits on communication across the country.
Sotoudeh, known for defending political prisoners and women prosecuted over mandatory dress laws, has been repeatedly detained over the past two decades. She was previously released in 2021 on medical grounds.
Her family has expressed concern for her health, noting a pre-existing heart condition that could worsen under stress.
