Actress Lili Reinhart has disclosed that an unnamed male director instructed her to suck in her stomach during a film shoot, sharing the uncomfortable encounter in a recent video interview with Cosmopolitan magazine.

The 28-year-old American star was appearing alongside Lola Tung, Victoria Pedretti and Alexandra Shipp to promote their project «Forbidden Fruits» when asked about the most impactful acting note she had ever received. Reinhart recalled the incident without hesitation.

«When I had a male director come up to me and silently lean over and say, ‘Just suck in your stomach a little bit,’» she said.

Her castmates responded with immediate outrage. Pedretti demanded to know the filmmaker’s name and address, while Tung quipped that it was time to cast a hex. Although Shipp urged her to identify the director publicly, Reinhart opted to keep his identity hidden and promised to share it with her co-stars in private.

Reinhart rose to global prominence portraying the iconic comic book character Betty Cooper on the hit teen drama «Riverdale», which concluded in 2023 after a seven-season run. She has since expanded her portfolio with films such as «Hustlers» and «Look Both Ways», becoming a vocal advocate for mental health awareness and body positivity in an industry notoriously critical of women’s physiques.

Recenty she acted for the BTS comeback MV «SWIM».

Body dysmorphia

Lili Reinhart has frequently detailed her personal battles with body dysmorphia, a condition she attributes largely to the intense scrutiny she faced whilst starring on the popular CW series. Speaking to Self magazine last year, Reinhart confessed she avoids looking at footage from the show’s sixth season because she felt entirely dissociated on set and spent almost all her time fixated on her body.

In 2023, she took to X to criticise the mainstream media’s obsession with extremely thin proportions. She stated that her body dysmorphia was exacerbated by the normalisation of ultra-slender arms on screen, noting that such standards are completely unrealistic for adult women and represent a damaging adolescent ideal.
