The long-awaited teaser for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana was released, giving offering a first look at Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama. The teaser shows scenes from the coronation to the exile in Panchavati, as Kapoor embodies his character with grace, serenity, and divine presence.

Fans also get a brief look at Raya (Ravan) played by Yash at the teaser’s end. Before the teaser premiered, Alia Bhatt shared a video on social media, encouraging viewers to support her husband Ranbir Kapoor’s passion project.

She said: «The Ramayana unit is going to be out tomorrow. It is the unit called the Rama unit. I’m going to post it on my social media, so please go out there and support it. Ranbir has done such a beautiful job and I can’t wait for you guys to see it. It’s absolutely fabulous.»

Budget

Ramayana is reportedly being made with a budget of Rs 4,000 crore. Producer Namit Malhotra told that when work began several years ago, people thought it was a mad idea due to its scale.

«Put simply, the budget will be around $500 mln for both parts combined, which is over Rs 4,000 crore,» he said. Malhotra added: «We are creating the largest film in the world for the greatest epic. We are ambitious but grounded, and we are executing this more efficiently than some big Hollywood films.»

The soundtrack sees a first-time collaboration between AR Rahman and Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer.

Rahman told The Hollywood Reporter India: «It’s intimidating for both of us. We are scoring something so iconic and meaningful to the world. In the promo, there was a soundscape from Hans and I added Sanskrit elements. It’s challenging to bring something familiar yet fresh to audiences in India and beyond.»

Ramayana will be released as two movies. The first part will hit the cinema screens in October 2026 ahead of Diwali and the second will be released a year later for Diwali 2027. Alongside Ranbir Kapoor, the film stars Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey and Yash in significant roles.
