The developers behind the popular Chinese gacha game Genshin Impact have officially pulled the plug on the PlayStation 4 version of the game.

While the decision to terminate support was first announced back in August 2025, the transition became absolute on April 8, rendering the title inaccessible on Sony’s previous-generation console.

HoYoverse has released a statement advising dedicated fans to migrate their adventures to the PlayStation 5, PC or mobile devices. The developer reassured players that all account progress is safely stored and can be retrieved simply by logging into the same account on a supported platform.

The move to abandon the PS4 was primarily driven by the ageing console’s technical constraints. Specifically, HoYoverse pointed to performance limitations and strict maximum application size caps on the platform that hindered the game’s expanding open-world vision.

The timing of the shutdown coincided with the release of the game’s latest major content update on 8 April. This patch introduced a fresh playable character, additional high-tier equipment and expansive new regions to explore.

By streamlining support to more modern hardware, the development team intends to push the visual and mechanical boundaries of the game further, unfettered by the hardware specifications of a console launched over a decade ago.
