
British actor John Nolan, known for his roles in blockbuster films and television, has died at the age of 87, his family has confirmed.
Nolan, who appeared in major productions including Dunkirk and the Batman trilogy, passed away on April 11. His widow, Kim Hartman, paid tribute to him as «a free spirit» and «the kindest person I ever knew,» praising his intelligence, wit and devotion to family.
Born in 1938, Nolan enjoyed a long and varied career as an actor, director and lecturer. He was also the uncle of acclaimed filmmakers Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, with whom he frequently collaborated.
He was widely recognised for his role as the antagonist John Greer in the CBS series Person of Interest, which ran until 2016. Nolan also made appearances in his nephews’ films, including Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises, and had a memorable cameo as a blind war veteran in Dunkirk.
His final on-screen role came in Dune: Prophecy, where he appeared as the Speaker of the High Council.
Nolan is survived by his wife, their children and grandchildren. Tributes have poured in from fans and colleagues, many remembering his distinctive screen presence and long-standing contribution to film and television.
