South Korean music sensations BIGBANG have celebrated their 20th anniversary with an electrifying comeback at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Yonhap reports.
Taking to the stage on Sunday the iconic trio performed as a complete group for the first time in nine long years.
Comprising G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung the band closed out the Outdoor Theatre stage in Indio with a dynamic 50-minute set. The highly anticipated performance featured a string of their most famous anthems including «Bang Bang Bang», «Fantastic Baby» and «Loser».
Nostalgia and solo showcases
The Californian crowd erupted into loud cheers as the massive screens illuminated with the group’s legendary logo and the names of the members. Devoted fans enthusiastically waved their yellow crown-shaped light sticks which have long served as the ultimate symbol of the band’s dedicated following.
Alongside their massive group hits the members also treated the audience to solo and unit performances. Fans were thrilled by live renditions of Taeyang’s «Ringa Linga», G-Dragon’s «Power» and the duo’s energetic joint track «Good Boy».
Looking to the future
Addressing the massive crowd G-Dragon declared that BIGBANG was officially back and hinted at more exciting developments on the horizon. He told fans that their 20th anniversary had only just begun and asked them to wait just a little longer for even bigger projects.
Daesung echoed this sentiment by describing the band’s Coachella debut as an unforgettable night that he had been anticipating for a very long time.
Having debuted in 2006 BIGBANG quickly became the defining act of second-generation K-pop with massive hits like «Lies», «Haru Haru» and «Last Farewell». The group had not toured together since 2017 and their only release since then was the 2022 digital single «Still Life». Fittingly they concluded their desert set with a poignant performance of «Still Life» and promised to continue their activities as a unified group.
Taeyang reflected on the milestone year by stating that sharing the Coachella moment meant a great deal to them all. Fans will not have to wait long for the next performance as the trio is scheduled to take the festival stage for a second time next Monday.
