A new survey conducted by the employment platform hh.uz has shed light on the frequency of workplace romances in Uzbekistan.

Polling 900 respondents across the country the study revealed that 54% of professionals have experienced romantic feelings for a colleague at least once in their careers.

Within this group 34% stated their feelings were mutual while 13% kept their crushes a secret and 7% faced unrequited love. Conversely 46% of participants reported that they have never harboured romantic feelings for anyone they worked with.

From co-workers to partners

It appears that the office is a highly common environment for finding a long-term partner. The data shows that 17% of respondents are currently dating or have previously dated a co-worker.

Even more striking is that 12% of those surveyed ended up marrying someone they met on the job. In contrast 41% of people have completely avoided office relationships and 19% stated their workplace connections never progressed beyond a simple mutual attraction.

Notably nearly half of all respondents claim to know couples who originally met at work and remain together today.

Navigating professional boundaries

Despite the frequency of these relationships attitudes towards mixing business with pleasure remain cautious. When asked about the appropriateness of office romances 42% of respondents believe they are acceptable provided they do not interfere with professional duties. Meanwhile 25% are strictly against the idea and 20% feel that the acceptability depends entirely on the specific situation.

The survey also highlighted the varied outcomes of these professional entanglements. While 15% of the respondents noted that their workplace romance is still going strong others had to navigate breakups. Following a split 18% managed to maintain a friendship with their former partner while 7% admitted that their relationship ended in a messy conflict.
