Uzbekistan has set a strategic goal to increase its trade volume with Russia to $30 bn by 2030. Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov announced this target during the sixth meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on April 13.

Addressing the commission, the Uzbek premier emphasised the rapid expansion of bilateral economic relations. He noted that trade between the two countries has doubled over the past five years and reached a total of $13 bn last year. By mid-April of this year, the total value of the joint Uzbek-Russian project portfolio had climbed to nearly $44 bn.

With active support from the Russian government, two major industrial parks known as Chirchiq and Jizzakh are currently operating successfully in the republic. To further fuel its growing domestic economy, Tashkent is also preparing to increase its purchases of Russian natural gas and crude oil.

«We are firmly committed to further developing close mutually beneficial and fruitful cooperation with the Russian Federation,» Aripov stated during the gathering.

During the talks, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin highlighted several recent collaborative industrial milestones. He pointed out that Moscow’s assistance was vital in opening a new copper concentrator at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex.

He also confirmed that construction on a fourth plant at the site has already commenced. Furthermore, Mishustin shared that work is actively underway to develop a dedicated railway equipment manufacturing cluster within Uzbekistan.
