Eight children have been killed and several others injured after a gunman opened fire at two homes in Shreveport in what police described as a domestic-related incident.

Authorities said the shooting occurred early Sunday morning in the Cedar Grove neighbourhood, where an adult male suspect shot 10 people, including children aged between one and 14. Two women were critically injured, while another child was hurt after jumping from a roof to escape.

The suspect fled the scene in a stolen vehicle before being shot dead by officers following a pursuit in nearby Bossier Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.

Police confirmed multiple linked crime scenes across the area and described the incident as one of the most extensive they had encountered. Investigators are still working to establish the full sequence of events and identify all victims.

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux called the shooting «a tragic situation» that has deeply affected the community, while Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said he was «heartbroken» and offered condolences to the victims’ families.

Officials have urged anyone with information or footage to come forward as the investigation continues.
