Uzbekistan Ice Hockey Team Storms to World Championship Gold

Uzbekistan’s national ice hockey squad has emphatically defeated Hong Kong in the decisive match of the 2026 IIHF World Championship (Division III B) to claim the tournament’s gold medals.
By securing the top spot on the podium the Uzbek players have earned a well-deserved promotion. Next year they will step up to compete in Division III A to face a more formidable group of international rivals.
The team demonstrated absolute superiority throughout the competition and delivered a remarkable sequence of heavy victories against their group opponents. Uzbekistan looked noticeably stronger than the rest of the field as they recorded the following astonishing scorelines before comfortably seeing off the host nation:
- Mongolia: 26-1
- The Philippines: 28-3
- North Korea: 20-3
- Luxembourg: 14-0
This latest triumph crowns a spectacular double achievement for the nation’s winter sports programme. Just a month prior the Uzbek junior squad also secured world championship gold in their respective division during a tournament that was similarly hosted in Hong Kong.
Remarkably this marks the second consecutive year of such dual dominance on the ice. In 2025 both the senior and junior Uzbekistan teams swept their respective world championships to claim gold medals at tournaments held in Armenia and Thailand.
