The fiercely anticipated fourth instalment of Ted Lasso has secured a launch date. The beloved comedy will grace our screens again on Wednesday August 5, with fresh episodes dropping weekly until October 7.

Apple TV has also treated fans to an initial teaser for the upcoming run. Released on April 28, the montage-heavy preview relies more on visuals than dialogue or storyline reveals. Crucially, it offers a glimpse of both familiar faces and new arrivals as Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) makes his grand return to Richmond to manage a women’s football team.

Fan favourites Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift are all reprising their roles. Meanwhile, fresh talent joining the pitch for the new episodes includes Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely.

This unexpected revival arrives more than three years after the conclusion of the show’s Emmy-winning third season, which many fans and critics alike presumed was the definitive end.

The creators had frequently stated their intention to stick to a strict three-season narrative arc from the very beginning. When the final episode of season three aired in 2023, it certainly felt like a genuine farewell. The emotional finale culminated with the American coach bidding adieu to his British colleagues to reunite with his son back in the States.

However, Apple intentionally stopped short of labelling season three as the absolute finale. That closing episode subtly planted the seeds for a continuation focused on a women’s squad, sparking widespread rumours of a spin-off that would exclude Sudeikis. Yet, by 2025, the streaming giant confirmed a proper fourth season was officially in the works with Sudeikis firmly back in the titular role.

Noticeably absent from the current season four roster are a few key players from the original trio of seasons, including Nick Mohammed as Nate and Phil Dunster as Jamie Tartt.
Ted Lasso first premiered in August 2020, serving up a much-needed slice of comforting optimism during the early stages of the global pandemic.

It quickly became one of Apple TV’s premier flagship hits shortly after the platform’s launch and ultimately secured the Emmy for outstanding comedy series for both its first and second outings.
