Real Madrid Fans Launch “Mbappe Out” Petition Amid Disappointing Season
A viral online petition demanding the immediate departure of Kylian Mbappe has swept through the Real Madrid fanbase. Millions of supporters have reportedly added their names to the campaign over the past few days, with some estimates suggesting the figure has already surpassed four million.
However, these numbers should be treated with caution. The website hosting the poll lacks verification protocols, making it easy for frustrated individuals to cast multiple votes or for bots to artificially inflate the total.
Holiday backlash
The online uproar is a reflection of fan frustration at the tail end of 2025-26 campaign. Tensions boiled over recently when photographs emerged of the forward holidaying in Sardinia with his girlfriend, the actress Ester Exposito.
Mbappe is currently recovering from a left hamstring injury sustained in late April. The timing of the getaway infuriated supporters given that his participation in the looming El Clasico on May 10 is already in severe doubt. Fans were quick to question his dedication to the team ahead of such a crucial fixture.
The Frenchman’s representatives swiftly pushed back against the criticism. They issued a statement describing the fan backlash as an «over-interpretation» and insisted that the club was fully aware of the trip.
The player’s camp argued that a brief holiday does not reflect his overall commitment or work ethic. Real Madrid head coach Alvaro Arbeloa also stepped in to calm the situation by stating that squad members are entirely free to spend their personal time however they choose.
The statistical paradox
Mbappe’s output for the team boasts 41 goals and six assists in 41 appearances. He has been directly involved in roughly 42% of all league goals for the Spanish giants this term.
However, Real Madrid crashed out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage, exited the Copa del Rey early and currently trail arch-rivals Barcelona by 11 points in La Liga.
Internal friction and World Cup focus
The Athletic has also reported on alleged internal friction at the club. This includes a supposed clash between the forward and a member of the coaching staff ahead of a recent fixture against Real Betis. Furthermore, some supporters suspect Mbappe is already shifting his focus towards his upcoming international duties with France at the World Cup.
Despite the online noise, there is absolutely no sign that the club hierarchy intends to offload their star forward. Recent reports even indicate that the player attended the training ground on his day off to continue his rehabilitation work.
