South Korean singer and actress IU celebrated her birthday this Saturday by making a substantial charitable donation of 300 mln won ($200,160).
According to her management agency Edam Entertainment, the financial contribution was made under the moniker «IUaena». This portmanteau proudly combines the beloved artist’s stage name with the official title of her dedicated fan club, Uaena.
The funds have been strategically divided to assist various demographics across the country. Edam Entertainment confirmed that 100 mln won was directed to the Asan Medical Center in Seoul. The remaining 200 mln won was distributed evenly, with 50 mln won granted to four separate local charity organisations.
The agency outlined that this comprehensive donation will be utilised to fund several vital initiatives:
- Supporting patients currently facing severe financial difficulties
- Providing educational and cultural programmes for children and adolescents
- Assisting elderly individuals who are living alone
- Supporting vulnerable single-mother households
- Supplying advanced assistive devices for people living with disabilities
This latest act of charity perfectly aligns with IU’s long-established tradition of giving back to the community. The acclaimed entertainer regularly makes significant donations under the IUaena name to commemorate special milestones such as her debut anniversary, her birthday and the year-end holidays.
Her charitable efforts are a consistent fixture throughout the year. Just earlier this month, she demonstrated her ongoing commitment to youth welfare by donating an additional 100 mln won to support children and teenagers in celebration of South Korea’s Children’s Day.
IU turned 33 years old today.
