Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan Celebrates Election Victory with Queen Anthem

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan marked the triumph of his Civil Contract party in the recent parliamentary elections by singing Queen’s legendary hit We Are the Champions. The political leader proudly shared a video of his impromptu musical celebration with his followers on Instagram.
The Central Electoral Commission has published the preliminary results after processing data from all 2,005 polling stations across the country. Over 1.47 mln citizens turned out to cast their ballots. The official figures show that Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party secured 49.81% of the overall vote, which translates to approximately 727,100 individual ballots in their favour.
The Strong Armenia bloc claimed second place in the parliamentary race, receiving 340,000 votes to achieve a 23.29% share. They were followed by the opposition coalition known simply as Armenia, which managed to garner the support of 145,100 voters to take 9.94% of the final count.
Despite the clear victory in the popular vote, the path to leadership requires specific parliamentary math. As reported by the news outlet RBC, Armenian legislation dictates that a political party or bloc can only form a new government independently if they manage to secure at least 52% of the available seats in parliament.
