South Korean entertainment mainstays Jung Kyung-ho and Choi Soo-young have called it quits following a 14-year romance. The couple, who were widely regarded as one of the most enduring and beloved celebrity pairings in the industry, had their split confirmed by their respective management agencies on Tuesday.
Jung’s representatives released a brief statement acknowledging that the pair recently parted ways. Meanwhile, Choi’s agency echoed the sentiment by stating that the two stars have chosen to remain good colleagues moving forward.
A decade in spotlight
The actor and the singer first crossed paths at a church gathering in 2012. After a period of quiet dating to avoid media scrutiny, they publicly acknowledged their romantic involvement in 2014.
Over the years, the couple garnered immense public support. They frequently displayed their affection by mentioning each other on television broadcasts, sharing anecdotes on variety programmes and sending supportive coffee trucks to one another’s filming sets. Their longevity made them a rare fixture in the notoriously private world of South Korean celebrity relationships.
Shifting focus to TV projects
Following the breakup, both stars are pivoting to focus entirely on their demanding acting schedules.
Choi originally debuted in 2007 as a core member of the legendary K-pop group Girls’ Generation before successfully carving out a path in the acting world. Jung has equally built a stellar reputation through critically acclaimed performances in massive television hits.
