Uzbekistan’s economy is projected to expand by 7.9% this year according to the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).

Aigul Berdigulova, a senior analyst at the EDB Country Analysis Centre, announced the figure during the presentation of the macroeconomic forecast for Eurasia covering the 2026 to 2028 period. She noted that this represents the highest growth rate of the past decade, surpassed only by the post-pandemic recovery recorded in 2021.

The projected economic growth is supported by several key factors. Berdigulova stated that robust investor activity, elevated gold prices and strong household income dynamics are the primary contributors. Additional drivers for the gross domestic product include the national investment policy and a sustained increase in non-resource exports.

Inflation and monetary policy

The analyst indicated that inflationary pressures are expected to decrease this year as a result of moderate monetary conditions. The strengthening of the national currency is anticipated to further support lower inflation by keeping import price increases restrained.

Despite the positive outlook, Berdigulova identified strong consumer demand and rising global raw material costs as potential pro-inflationary factors. The overall inflation rate is forecast to settle at 6.8 per cent this year before dropping to 5.5% across 2027 and 2028.

Consequently the EDB predicts that the central bank’s key interest rate will decrease to 13.5% by the end of the year. The bank attributed this anticipated rate cut to a sustained reduction in core inflation and a general decline in national price growth expectations.
