Uzbekistan took delivery of its third high-speed train manufactured by South Korean firm Hyundai Rotem on Monday June 22, the Ministry of Transport has announced.

The complex transport operation across the «South Korea–China–Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan» transit corridor was managed by the domestic freight company Temiryulkargo. The journey involved a combination of maritime, road and rail transport unified under a single logistical network to ensure direct door-to-door delivery from the manufacturer.

The arrival marks the exact halfway point of a major rail infrastructure upgrade. By the end of June, Uzbekistan will have received three of the six high-speed trains ordered under a contract valued at $195.7 mln. Beyond the delivery of the rolling stock, the agreement between Uzbekistan and South Korea includes a collaborative framework to train local railway specialists.

The modernisation of the nation’s rail network is already yielding results for passengers. The first high-speed train supplied by Hyundai Rotem entered commercial service at the beginning of May this year, with ticket prices starting from 780,000 soums.
