HoYoverse has sent the Genshin Impact community into a frenzy with the sudden release of a brand-new teaser trailer for the highly anticipated Snezhnaya region.

Moving away from the sunny landscapes of recent updates this latest cinematic plunges players straight into the frigid, politically charged and deeply philosophical heart of the Tsaritsa’s domain.

Packing an incredible density of dialogue the video introduces a massive cast of new figures alongside returning Fatui Harbingers and drops significant hints about the endgame of the Teyvat storyline.

Here is a comprehensive breakdown of the characters, the emerging lore and everything we know so far.

The characters

The teaser introduces a wide array of new faces spanning all levels of Snezhnayan society while bringing back some familiar antagonists.

Vodyanitsa and Alyosha take centre stage early in the video. Vodyanitsa is a glamorous opera singer seen preparing for a performance who harbours rebellious thoughts against the rules governing the world. Alyosha acts as her vigilant guard and is the first to name-drop major plot elements like snowstorms and Project Stuzha.

Valeriy, Odette and the Unnamed Knight introduce immediate physical conflict to the narrative. Valeriy is a newly revealed knight engaged in a mysterious off-stage duel with an to protect an enigmatic white-haired knight against Odette and Alyosha. The tension escalates when Odette approaches the white-haired knight from behind in the opera audience and places a blade to his neck.

Rooster and Pantalone represent the upper echelons of the Fatui. Rooster is seen presiding over a massive lecture hall attempting to push through a motion to extend Project Stuzha. In a rare display of internal friction he faces loud vocal objections from the Fatui ranks while Pantalone observes the chaos with dark amusement from a secluded corner.

Vesna, Danica and Noy offer glimpses into the wider nation. Vesna appears as a fae-like leader commanding a squad known as the Druzhna in the name of the Tsaritsa. Danica provides a moment of intrigue by boldly interrupting a private discussion aboard a train. Meanwhile Noy is stationed in the wilderness and reflects on the relative peace of the current era compared to eons past.

Anastasya Feodorovna Snezhnaya and Mitya anchor the emotional and divine core of the teaser. Mitya is shown in a chaotic room filled with books just as a mysterious artefact known as the Kresnik’s torch freezes over alongside the entire city. Anastasya is a figure carrying the name of the nation itself who laments how the Heavenly Principles destroyed her love.

Ronova and Rhinedottir deliver the most ominous moments. Ronova coldly cuts the image of Anastasya’s husband out of a family photograph while delivering a chilling monologue about death and the blessings of deluded gods. The teaser culminates with the shocking reveal of Rhinedottir / Naberius as she plays a high-stakes game of chess against Anastasya using the divine Gnoses as playing pieces.

The lore

The narrative threads woven through this teaser suggest that Snezhnaya is a region wrestling with both internal division and a monumental cosmic rebellion.

The concept of “rules as curses” is a dominant theme introduced by Vodyanitsa. The people of Snezhnaya seem acutely aware of the celestial laws governing Teyvat and are actively debating whether to overthrow these rules or find a way to transcend them entirely. This philosophical struggle mirrors the physical reality of the nation where divine authority is viewed not as a blessing but as an oppressive force.

Project Stuzha is confirmed to be a massive and highly controversial undertaking. Rooster’s attempt to extend the project is met with direct defiance from his subordinates which strongly implies that the Fatui are not a completely unified front. The cost of their grand ambitions may be taking a heavy toll on the ordinary soldiers and citizens.

Finally the dialogue from Anastasya and Ronova reframes the conflict with Celestia as a deeply personal tragedy. Anastasya’s claim that the Heavenly Principles spoiled her love suggests that the Tsaritsa’s legendary hardening of heart was triggered by a specific, divine intervention that tore her family apart.

What we know so far

Based on this dense cinematic we can piece together the immediate future of the Genshin Impact storyline.

Snezhnaya is not entirely stable. Between the objections to Rooster in the lecture hall and the assassination attempt by Odette in the opera house it is clear that political factions and infighting will play a major role in the upcoming Archon Quests. The nation is currently balancing the rigid devotion of squads like the Druzhna with growing internal dissent.

The physical environment is also undergoing a terrifying shift. Mitya’s scene confirms that a supernatural freezing event is consuming the city and overtaking artefacts like the Kresnik’s torch. This could be a side effect of Project Stuzha or a defensive measure enacted by the Tsaritsa herself.

Most importantly the endgame is already in motion. The final shot of Rhinedottir and Anastasya playing chess with the Gnoses confirms that the Fatui’s grand collection scheme is nearing its conclusion. The characters are no longer just preparing for war against the Heavenly Principles; they are actively placing their final pieces on the board.

The trailer also carries and ominous description:

Sleep well, sleep well, children of this world…
Fear neither the dark nor the deathly stillness,
For the divine has promised you unconditional love.

Awaken, awaken, O storm with neither root nor source!
If blessings are so generous, so selfless,
Then why has mercy never reached the winter?
