U.S. Pledges No Additional Tariffs on Uzbek Exports as Trade Ties Deepen

The United States has committed to withholding any additional tariffs on goods originating from Uzbekistan. The trade development was recently announced by Azizbek Urunov who serves as the Uzbek presidential representative for the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Sharing the update via his official LinkedIn page Urunov explained the reciprocal nature of the newly discussed terms. He outlined that the Uzbek government plans to introduce a highly preferential tariff regime covering a broad spectrum of American products. In return Washington has guaranteed it will not levy any mutual tariffs on Uzbek exports beyond the standard rates already mandated by existing U.S. legislation.
A balanced partnership
These trade assurances follow a diplomatic visit to Tashkent by U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. During the high-level negotiations Greer observed that current bilateral trade between the two nations is operating at a notably balanced level. He also emphasised the substantial untapped potential for further economic growth between Washington and Tashkent.
Following these discussions both delegations have formally agreed to intensify their collaborative efforts to expand broader trade and investment cooperation.
Fast-tracking WTO integration
Beyond direct bilateral trade Greer used the visit to firmly reiterate American backing for Uzbekistan’s ongoing bid to join the WTO. Both countries have now agreed to actively accelerate joint initiatives designed to promote and expedite the republic’s final accession process.
Diplomatic teams are currently working to finalise the specifics of these latest discussions. Over the coming weeks both parties fully intend to conclude the formal coordination of a comprehensive package of agreements. This upcoming framework will establish concrete measures for driving mutual investment and significantly improving cross-border market access.
