Uzbekistan to Send Official Delegation to Ayatollah Khamenei’s Funeral Ceremonies

Uzbekistan is preparing to take part in extensive mourning events across Iran and Iraq to honour Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
According to a source within the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a formal state delegation will depart for Iran on July 3. The group will be headed by Nuriddin Ismoilov, the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. They will join government representatives from over 30 nations and religious dignitaries from more than 90 countries who are gathering to pay their final respects.
A transnational schedule of mourning
Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister and the head of the committee organising the funeral rites, announced that the primary ceremonies will commence on July 4. The Mosalla complex in Tehran will be opened to accommodate a mass public farewell.
On July 5 the Iranian capital will host a traditional funeral prayer known as a Janazah which will be immediately followed by a massive public mourning procession.
The extensive schedule of tributes will not be confined to Tehran. Further memorial events are slated to take place in the Iranian cities of Qom and Mashhad as well as the Iraqi Shiite holy cities of Najaf and Karbala. The commemorations will ultimately conclude with a final burial ceremony on July 9 in Mashhad.
To manage the sheer scale of these events a unified national headquarters has been established in Iran. A parallel coordination centre has also been set up in neighbouring Iraq to manage the local ceremonies and respectfully receive the deceased’s body.
Ayatollah Khamenei was killed in a joint American-Israeli airstrike on February 28, 2026. The devastating attack also claimed the lives of several of his family members including his daughter, son-in-law, one-year-old granddaughter and other close relatives.
