Anthony Hamilton, the father of seven-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton, is set to auction 27 classic and modern vehicles from his private collection at Silverstone on July 25. The sale, managed by Iconic Auctioneers, showcases a selection of British and German automotive engineering assembled by the man who played a pivotal role in his son’s historic racing career.

Anthony Hamilton’s own journey has been defined by the sacrifices he made to nurture his son’s talent, including working multiple jobs, from double-glazing sales to IT contracting, to fund Lewis’s early karting and junior racing years. His mentorship provided the foundation for Lewis’s ascent to the pinnacle of motorsport before their professional management partnership ended in 2010 to allow for a purely father-son dynamic.

Jaguar and performance icons

The highest-valued lot in the collection is a right-hand drive Jaguar XJ220. This rare machine, one of only 69 UK-supplied models, is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing 542 hp. Having remained with its previous owner for 25 years before Hamilton’s acquisition, it shows just 3,277 miles and is expected to fetch between £500,000 and £550,000.

The Jaguar selection also features a recreation of the ultra-rare XKSS, which served as a reference vehicle for Jaguar Classic’s Reborn Series. Buyers can also bid on «tool-room» copies of the 1951 Le Mans-winning C-type and the 1952 Mille Miglia entry. Additionally, the line-up includes three stunning E-types, such as a Series 3 V12 model. This version, which replaced the six-cylinder units, is powered by a 5.3-litre SOHC V12 engine producing 314 hp, capable of reaching 60 mph in roughly 6.8 seconds.

Mercedes-Benz and British heritage

The collection features several Mercedes-Benz vehicles, reflecting a brand synonymous with Lewis Hamilton’s championship-winning tenure at the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team. Highlights include a 2013 C63 AMG Edition 507, which features an uprated 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine producing 507 hp, an increase of 50 hp over the standard C63, allowing for a 0–100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds. The selection also includes a white 1960 190 SL and a 1989 300SL formerly owned by British heavyweight boxer Billy Walker.

The auction further diversifies into British heritage with an Aston Martin line-up including a Lagonda, a Series 3 V8, and a 1990s V8 Coupe. Triumph enthusiasts can explore an Italia, two Spitfires, a GT6 MkI, and a significant TR5 prototype. The catalogue is completed by a series of 1960s Mini Cooper S variants (970 S, 1071 S, and 1275 S), alongside two David Brown Mini Remastered vehicles and a 2016 David Brown Speedback GT.

Iconic Auctioneers specialist Lionel Abbott noted that the collection reflects a deep passion for characterful British motoring. He added that presenting these cars at Silverstone, situated adjacent to the circuit’s famous Hamilton Straight, is a fitting tribute to a family so closely woven into the fabric of British motorsport history.
