There were three other strikes by Iranian forces against U.S. military facilities in Jordan before the Friday attack, which saw two service members killed and one missing, according to The New York Times.
Dozens of troops have been injured in the earlier Iranian strikes, the NYT report said, citing an American official who requested anonymity. In addition to the injuries, several U.S. helicopters were damaged.
The Pentagon chose not to withhold information about the attacks, the casualties, and the damage.
Another U.S. military official told the newspaper that releasing such a detailed report could provide intelligence that Iran could use to increase the efficiency of future missile or drone attacks on the American facilities in Jordan, where thousands of American troops are stationed.
The report, the authenticity of which could not be independently verified, comes as a renewed U.S. air campaign against Iranian targets entered its ninth day. Earlier on Monday, U.S. missiles hit several cities, with explosions reported in Tabriz, Chabahar, Konarak, Bandar Mahshahr and Bandar Imam Khomeini.
