New Prince George Photo Released for 13th Birthday
Kensington Palace has issued a new portrait of Prince George to mark his 13th birthday.
The image, captured by photographer Matt Porteous, shows the second in line to the throne dressed in a dark suit and an open-necked white shirt. Posing with his hands in his pockets, George projects a noticeably more mature image compared to previous birthday releases.
Palace officials shared the photograph across social media platforms with a brief celebratory message featuring a party popper emoji. Porteous took the picture at Kensington Palace last month immediately following the Trooping the Colour ceremony in London.
The teenager’s formal attire contrasts sharply with his 12th birthday portrait. That earlier photograph featured a relaxed rural Norfolk setting where he wore a casual countryside-style gilet and a friendship bracelet.
Transition to Eton College
This stylistic shift aligns with a major educational milestone. The eldest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales is preparing to begin secondary education this September at Eton College. The prestigious boys’ boarding school typically admits pupils at age 13.
By attending Eton, George follows a well-established royal path. His father Prince William enrolled there, later recalling his time at the school fondly during an interview at age 18. The prince’s uncle Prince Harry and great-uncle Earl Spencer also attended the elite private institution.
George will transition from Lambrook School in Berkshire, which he attended alongside his younger siblings Charlotte and Louis, to become a boarder. He will join one of Eton’s 25 boarding houses, each accommodating approximately 55 students under the direct supervision of a residential house master. The historic campus is conveniently situated near the Wales family’s Forest Lodge residence on the Windsor estate.
While his parents have continuously attempted to provide a grounded upbringing away from relentless media attention, George has steadily increased his public profile over the past year. The young royal’s recent appearances include volunteering at a homelessness charity during the Christmas season, attending King Charles’ official birthday parade in June and accompanying his parents to the Wimbledon tennis championships earlier this month.
