The Man City midfielder who led the Spain team to their hard-fought 2026 World Cup trophy is now waiting for Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to greenlight the transfer, the Daily Mail has learned on July 23. Rodri’s City contract ends in 2027, with the Spaniard eager to return to Madrid.
Separately, French outlet L’Equipe reported that Real Madrid had made a final decision to sign the midfielder, but Man City demanded €100 Mln for the 30-year-old.
Whether the Spanish giants will match the hefty asking price is still uncertain. Rodri, hailed as one of the world’s premier defensive midfielders, was valued at €55 Mln by Transfermarkt on July 22.
Should Rodri depart, City are poised to hunt for his successor. According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Paris Saint-Germain’s Joao Neves and Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand are all on their radar.
Rodri may face back surgery, casting doubt on his availability for the 2026-27 season.
