It is easy to imagine the future leader of the world’s most valuable tech company glued to spreadsheets every night. Yet John Ternus, Apple’s soon-to-be CEO, unwinds just like the rest of us.
John Ternus, who will take over from the current CEO Tim Cook in September, walked the red carpet at the Ted Lasso Season 4 premiere earlier this week, according to The Deadline. The incoming Apple CEO faced the question every streaming fan might want to know: what does he actually watch?
Ternus said he is currently hooked on The Studio, Apple’s Hollywood satire with Seth Rogen, calling it one of his favourite recent series. He is also a fan of Shrinking, the comedy-drama with Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, and said he «can’t wait» for the next season of Slow Horses, the popular spy thriller starring Gary Oldman.
And of course, the Emmy-winning comedy Ted Lasso is a staple on Ternus’s watchlist.
What next for Apple streaming platform
Standing next to Cook, Ternus said Apple’s streaming platform has “tremendous momentum” because of its growing lineup of memorable characters and original stories. He added that the company plans to keep building on that success.
Cook summed up Apple’s entertainment philosophy in one sentence: it is not trying to outproduce Netflix or other streaming services. Instead, it wants to make the best shows, not the most.
Despite its growing catalogue, Apple has no intention of chasing Netflix-style volume. Ternus said the company plans to expand its entertainment business by sticking to a “quality over quantity” strategy, focusing on premium original films and TV series rather than flooding the platform with new releases.
