Stalin gets arrested, but not in Moscow and not for what you think. Tamil Nadu Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin was detained at his Chennai residence on Tuesday morning following allegations that he made derogatory comments about actor Trisha Krishnan.
The core issue stems from a recent political rally. During a gathering concerning a regional water dispute, the crowd began chanting the actor’s name. The politician paused his speech and reportedly responded with an offensive double entendre.
The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party immediately condemned the speech, stating that such rhetoric from a prominent platform normalises the verbal harassment of women in public spaces. Following the outrage, the political group filed a formal complaint with local police, contacted national regulators and demanded immediate action.
As officers escorted him from his home, the smiling politician dismissed the entire situation as a joke and promised to fight the charges legally. Heavy police security was subsequently deployed outside his property to manage protesting supporters.
The incident drew fierce reactions from the public, rival politicians and women’s rights advocates. While rivals described the comments as unacceptable, his own camp maintained he was solely discussing water sharing rather than targeting the film star.
