Atiq Ahmed’s son Aban killed in fatal Jhansi car crash
Aban Ahmed, the youngest son of the slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, died Thursday when his car crashed into a highway divider in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.
The high-speed collision instantly killed Aban and his companion Sonu, completely destroying the front of their vehicle. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene in the Poonch police station area, extricating the victims from the mangled wreckage and transporting three other occupants, identified as Mohammad Zaid, Farooq and Umar, to a local hospital with critical injuries.
According to survivor Mohammad Umar, the driver lost control of the speeding vehicle, causing it to veer off course and strike the median.
The group was travelling from Prayagraj to Jhansi to visit Aban’s elder brother Ali Ahmed. Ali is currently incarcerated at the Jhansi district jail, having been transferred there from Naini Central Jail in October 2025. He remains in custody following his surrender in an extortion case and is a prime suspect in the February 2023 murder of Umesh Pal.
A family history of violence
Umesh Pal was a critical witness in the 2005 assassination of Bahujan Samaj Party legislator Raju Pal. He was gunned down outside his Dhoomanganj residence in Prayagraj alongside two police bodyguards. Authorities allege Ali orchestrated the plot from behind bars and assumed control of his father’s IS-227 criminal syndicate following Atiq’s death.
The fatal crash marks another grim chapter for the notorious family. Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range in April 2023 by three assailants posing as journalists. The brothers were heavily escorted by police to a medical examination in Prayagraj when the attackers opened fire.
This is not the first time Atiq Ahmed has lost a son to a violent end. In April 2023, just days before his father’s assassination, his 19-year-old son Asad was killed in a police encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force near Jhansi alongside an associate named Ghulam.
