September is set to be one of 2026’s busiest months for video games, with major releases arriving on almost every current platform. GameSpot’s updated calendar contains 26 dated entries, but these nine stand out for their scale, pedigree or originality.

The Blood of Dawnwalker

Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Marvel’s Wolverine

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV

Silent Hill: Townfall

Minecraft Dungeons II

Our picks span superhero action, psychological horror, fantasy role-playing and family-friendly co-op. Here’s what September 2026 has in store for game releases, whether you’re a diehard fan of every industry showcase or haven’t picked up a controller in years.

The Blood of Dawnwalker — 3 September

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Rebel Wolves, a studio made up of ex-CD Projekt Red developers, delivers a dark fantasy adventure that follows Coen, a man who is human by day and a vampire by night. Its mediaeval open world, evolving abilities and player-shaped story make it one of the most closely watched RPGs of September.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword — 4 September

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.

Capcom is bringing back its long-dormant Onimusha series with a cinematic action game set in a demon-infested version of early Edo-period Kyoto. Players take on the role of the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, engaging in battles that rely on skilful blocking, counterattacks, and supernatural abilities.

Marvel’s Wolverine — 15 September

Platform: PlayStation 5.

Its Wolverine adventure promises blistering, violent close-quarters combat and an original story that takes Logan from the Canadian wilderness to Tokyo and the fictional island of Madripoor.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave — 17 September

Platform: Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo’s tactical fantasy series returns with battles that play like a complex game of chess, only every piece has a personality, history, and relationships that players can influence. Fortune’s Weave’s four heroes from different eras compete in the Heroic Games and seek to prevent a demon god from destroying their future.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV — 17 September

Platform: PC.

Dawn of War IV takes the science-fiction series back to large-scale real-time strategy, meaning players control entire armies, build bases and capture territory rather than just one hero. Its campaign takes Space Marines, Orks, Necrons and the Adeptus Mechanicus to the planet Kronus. Solo, co-op and competitive modes are included.

Silent Hill: Townfall — 24 September

Platforms: PC and PlayStation 5.

Silent Hill: Townfall is bringing the psychological horror series to a remote Scottish isle in 1996, where characters’ choices are limited by the lack of technology for calling for help. The self-contained first-person story will focus on stealth and disturbing narrative puzzles, providing a potential entry point for newcomers and another disturbing journey for established fans.

Minecraft Dungeons II — 29 September

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

Minecraft Dungeons II trades building and mining for accessible monster fighting solo or with friends. The sequel features a new story, new areas to explore, more gear, and a mysterious dimension called the Sift, and Microsoft says you don’t need to know the original game.
