K-pop group Mamamoo has cancelled the Jakarta stop of its 2026 «4WARD» world tour after the eruption of Anak Krakatau caused major travel disruption and prompted tighter safety measures in Indonesia.
The concert was scheduled for September 19 at NICE PIK 2, with the group’s agency RBW announcing the cancellation on September 11. The company said that continuing uncertainty following recent volcanic activity and strengthened local safety and security measures led it and the local promoter to prioritise the safety of the artists and concertgoers.
Tickets will be fully refunded, with the ticketing platform and local promoter expected to provide details on the process and schedule separately. The Jakarta concert had been due to begin at 6:30 p.m. local time, with tickets ranging from 950,000 Indonesian rupiah to 4.3 million rupiah before taxes and fees.
The cancellation follows a major eruption of Anak Krakatau, which lies in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra rather than in Jakarta itself. Volcanic ash spread across the region and forced temporary airport closures, including at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta’s main international gateway.
Why Anak Krakatau caused disruption
The eruption sent ash as high as 50,000 feet, creating a significant aviation hazard. Volcanic ash can make flying unsafe because it can damage aircraft engines and other systems, leading airlines to cancel or reroute services even when an airport is far from the volcano itself.
By September 7, Indonesia’s transport ministry said 2,961 domestic and international flights had been affected, leaving about 341,000 passengers facing cancellations, delays or diversions. Jakarta airports later reopened and flights resumed, but authorities continued monitoring the volcano.
Jakarta cancellation interrupts Mamamoo’s ongoing world tour
The Jakarta date was part of Mamamoo’s 2026 «4WARD» world tour, which marked the return of Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein and Hwasa as a full group. Their special single «4WARD» was released alongside their reunion after about three years and eight months of full-group activities.
The tour began with three concerts in Seoul from June 19 to 21 before travelling to Kaohsiung, Macau, Singapore and Manila. Mamamoo then completed a US run in August with dates including New York, Chicago, Fort Worth, the Austin area, Los Angeles, San Jose and the Seattle area. Seoul, Kaohsiung and Macau were among the dates that sold out, with additional shows added in some cities.
Despite the Jakarta cancellation, the tour is scheduled to continue. The group is due to perform in Melbourne on September 22 and Sydney on September 25, followed by a sold-out Hong Kong concert on October 4. Further dates are scheduled for Kuala Lumpur on October 10 and Tokyo on October 25.
The Melbourne concert will therefore become Mamamoo’s next scheduled performance following the cancellation in Indonesia.
