Marques Brownlee highlights pros and cons of new Apple iPhone Duo
Tech reviewer Marques Brownlee has delivered his verdict on the highly anticipated Apple iPhone Duo. In his latest hands-on review the creator outlined the major pros and cons of the $2,000 foldable device following its official unveiling.
Brownlee praised the tech giant for entering the foldable market with a highly polished product that feels genuinely premium. He highlighted the phone’s seamless transitions and overall fit and finish as significant advantages over Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. The creator noted that Apple adapted the software experience specifically for the new form factor rather than simply stretching existing applications to fit a larger display.
According to Brownlee the device successfully merges the everyday utility of a standard smartphone with the broader capabilities of an iPad mini. When unfolded the 7.6-inch inner display offers a compelling experience for reading, web browsing and productivity tasks.
He also commended the engineering team for minimising the visual impact of the inner screen crease which has historically been a major aesthetic concern for foldable technology enthusiasts.
High price tag and distinct camera compromises
Despite the extensive praise Brownlee pointed out several distinct downsides to the new hardware. The most obvious visual drawback is the asymmetrical outer cover screen which features a squared left edge and a rounded right edge. The reviewer noted that this unusual design choice could prove frustrating for left-handed users and limits the home screen dock to just four items.
Furthermore Brownlee heavily criticised the image quality of the new under-screen selfie camera describing the results as undeniably poor. He warned that consumers who prioritise top-tier photography should look elsewhere as the Duo’s camera hardware simply cannot match the capabilities of the traditional iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
The staggering financial cost remains the ultimate barrier to entry. At $2,000 in the US and significantly more in international markets the device occupies a niche segment that accounts for a tiny fraction of global smartphone sales.
Brownlee concluded that while the iPhone Duo is definitively not for everyone it offers a genuinely fun and polished experience for dedicated Apple users with disposable income who are eager to finally test foldable technology.
