Apple’s next iPad mini could bring an OLED screen, an A20 Pro processor and a repositioned camera as soon as October. The reported changes would give buyers more to consider than a routine speed upgrade, although Apple has not announced the tablet.
The latest evidence comes from MacRumors, whose contributor Aaron Perris reportedly found images and references in Apple’s code. The publication says they point to an A20 Pro chip and a front-facing camera positioned for landscape use. It has not published the underlying files.

The screen could be the biggest change
The current iPad mini has an 8.3-inch LCD screen and an A17 Pro chip. An OLED replacement could deliver deeper blacks and stronger contrast — benefits that may be more noticeable when watching films than an increase in processing power. Apple explains that OLED pixels emit their light rather than relying on a backlight.
In the meantime, OLED does not imply that the mini will inherit the iPad Pro’s display specifications. The MacRumors report does not specify a 120 Hz refresh rate or the Pro’s two-layer OLED design.
The camera change serves a simpler purpose: to position it centrally above the screen when the tablet is held horizontally. That may make landscape video calls feel more natural, but it provides less obvious benefit to people who mostly hold the mini upright.

What remains uncertain
MacRumors also links the redesign to earlier Bloomberg reporting about improved water resistance and a vibration-based speaker system. Those features remain unconfirmed, with no announced water-resistance rating.
Price could determine the upgrade’s appeal. Macworld reports that the current US starting price is $599 following a June increase. There is no confirmed price for its successor.
