Max Verstappen completed a perfect Saturday at the Marina Bay Street Circuit by securing pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix just hours after winning the wet Sprint race earlier in the day. The Red Bull driver mastered the rapidly changing track conditions to edge out Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.

The opening 18-minute segment was defined by rapid track evolution and a desperate scramble for grip as the heavy rain from the Sprint washed away all the rubber. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were fortunate to participate at all, relying on rapid repairs from the McLaren mechanics following a controversial last-lap collision in the earlier Sprint.

At the bottom of the timesheets, Isack Hadjar suffered a catastrophic start to his evening. After retiring from the Sprint with an engine issue, the Red Bull mechanics performed a frantic power unit swap, only for the Frenchman’s car to suffer a terminal gearbox failure on his first out-lap. He was eliminated without setting a time alongside Sergio Perez, Fernando Alonso, Alex Albon, Lance Stroll and Valtteri Bottas.

Hamilton dominates a frantic Q2

As track conditions continued to improve, Lewis Hamilton stepped up to deliver a dominant performance in Q2. The seven-time world champion set a blistering benchmark of 1m 31.529s to easily top the session.

Behind him, the midfield battle proved incredibly tight. Racing Bulls secured an impressive double Q3 appearance with Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad advancing, while Pierre Gasly also made the cut for Alpine. Carlos Sainz dropped out in 14th place. The Williams driver was eliminated alongside Nico Hulkenberg, Ollie Bearman, Esteban Ocon, Gabriel Bortoleto and Franco Colapinto.

Verstappen strikes in Q3 shootout

Entering the top 10 shootout, Hamilton appeared to be the clear favourite. However, track conditions surprisingly deteriorated in the dying minutes of the session, catching out several front-runners.

Verstappen laid down an unbeatable 1m 31.373s on his initial flying run. Hamilton failed to stitch together a clean middle sector on his final attempt and settled for third, while Leclerc managed a late improvement to snatch second place on the grid, trailing Verstappen by just 0.054s.

Kimi Antonelli secured a strong fourth place for Mercedes as the team opted for a double warm-up lap strategy to bring the soft C5 tyres into the optimal operating window. Norris managed fifth for McLaren ahead of George Russell. Russell is already confirmed to start at the back of the grid due to power unit penalties, which will promote the rest of the top 10 up the starting order for Sunday’s race.
