Apple is preparing a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro featuring the forthcoming M7 chip for release in spring 2027.

Historically, Apple’s design overhauls take several years to reach base model computers. When Apple introduced a new chassis for higher-tier laptops in 2021, the entry-level device retained an older frame until 2023. A similar delay occurred following the 2016 redesign.

This time, the updated aesthetic will reach the base model just six months after debuting on premium tiers.

According to a Bloomberg report, the forthcoming redesign will introduce a thinner chassis, OLED displays with touch support and potentially a Dynamic Island interface.

Apple plans to launch these features on high-end laptops, rumoured to be branded as MacBook Ultra, between late 2026 and early 2027.

To bridge the gap before the overhaul, an entry-level MacBook Pro with the current design and an M6 processor is scheduled for release this autumn. It will launch alongside the first wave of redesigned premium laptops, which will run on M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.

Accelerated hardware roadmap

Apple reportedly scrapped plans for high-end M6 processors to accelerate the development of the M7 generation. This decision underscores a strategic pivot toward advancing Apple Silicon capabilities more rapidly across the entire product lineup.

The altered hardware roadmap creates an unusual release sequence over the next year. Consumers will see the M6 entry-level device and M5-powered premium laptops this autumn, followed by the redesigned M7 base model in spring 2027. High-end variants featuring M7 Pro and M7 Max processors are slated for autumn 2027.

The rapid trickle-down of premium design features offers a more affordable entry point for consumers facing recent hardware price increases. Industry analysts expect the redesigned 14-inch laptop with an M5 Pro chip to exceed $2,500. Base model prices currently sit at $1,999 due to ongoing memory component shortages across the supply chain.
