Tyler Cameron and Jackson Olson were eliminated from Dancing with the Stars on 27 October, effectively ending their Mirrorball hopes on Horror Movie Night. Even 35 out of 40 could not save Olson from a premature death.

The Savannah Bananas baseball player and partner Emma Slater left alongside The Bachelorette star Cameron and Sharna Burgess, according to ABC. As of this Wednesday, eight couples remain in season 35.

Cameron said he felt he had let Burgess down. Olson, who had campaigned for a place on the show before joining the cast, described the experience as a wonderful journey, according to Us Weekly’s recap.

Why a strong score couldn’t save Jackson Olson

Nobody went home during last week’s Dedication Night. Instead, judges’ scores and viewer votes from both episodes were combined to decide this week’s double elimination.

Olson’s Joker-inspired contemporary routine to Frank Sinatra’s That’s Life earned 35 points. Cameron’s Dracula-themed Viennese waltz received 26, tying Julia Stiles for the night’s lowest score.

But Olson also finished above Stiles and Tatyana Ali across the combined two-week judges’ leaderboard, TheWrap reported. His departure underlined the competition’s unforgiving arithmetic: good marks cannot guarantee survival when audience votes count too.

Harry Shum Jr turns horror into perfection

At the other end of the ballroom, Harry Shum Jr and Jenna Johnson earned the season’s first perfect score: 40 out of 40 for a Saw-inspired contemporary routine to 2WEI’s Toxic.

Guest judge Shirley Ballas also stood out, awarding Stiles just four points. Connor Wood enjoyed a breakthrough, collecting his first ten for an Annabelle: Creation-inspired performance with Rylee Arnold.

Shum, Wood, Stiles, Ali, Jenna Dewan, Amber Glenn, Ezra Frech and Maura Higgins remain in contention.

US viewers can stream the October 27 episode on Hulu starting October 28. The series airs Tuesdays at 8pm Eastern time on ABC and Disney+.
