The rapid urbanisation of Tashkent and the substantial increase in car ownership, with over 4 million vehicles registered as of January 2022, have presented significant urban planning challenges. Between 2001 and 2021, the number of vehicles surged by 250%, resulting in a predominance of cars in the urban landscape.
