Two more high-speed Spanish-made trains might be bought by the O’zbekiston Temir Yo’llari (Uzbekistan Railroads) company.
Davron Dehkanov, deputy head of the Uzbekistani Ministry of Transportation, announced at an international press club meeting in Tashkent that the country is planning to buy two high-speed trains from Talgo in 2021.
«At the moment we are negotiating with the Spanish company. If we manage to make a deal, we can see these trains even this year, not 2021,» he said.
The agreement on the supply of Spanish AVE 250 trains was signed in 2019. In addition to two trains, the O’zbekiston Temir Yo’llari company will get four extra economy carriages as well as service equipment. This €57.5 million project is supported by the Spanish Fund for the internationalization of the company (FIEM), which provided a loan.
High-speed Spanish Talgo trains have worked in Uzbekistan since 2011. Four trains go to Samarkand, Bukhara, Qarshi, and Shakhrisabz. As expected, this year a high-speed Afrosiyоb train will start to carriage tourists to ancient Khiva.
