Head Hunter: 14 Uzbeks Compete for a Single Job Vacancy

In 2024, an average of 14 Uzbeks applied for each vacancy on the hh.uz platform, according to a report from HeadHunter obtained by Kursiv Uzbekistan. This marked a 44% increase in applicant competition compared to the previous year.

During the year, employers posted 130,000 active vacancies on the platform, which represents a 28% increase over 2023.

The peak period for employer activity occurred between May and October. In October alone, Uzbek employers posted nearly 18,000 vacancies. Conversely, January and December 2024 saw the fewest new job offers.

The largest share of vacancies was in sales and customer service, accounting for 18.3% of all active job listings. Marketing, advertising, and public relations followed closely with a share of 13.8%. Additionally, 9.7% of the ads were for positions in sports clubs and beauty salons.

Notably, the number of vacancies in the insurance sector surged by 89% compared to 2023. There was also a significant increase in the demand for retail workers and employees in educational and scientific organizations. In contrast, the demand for staff remained relatively unchanged in consulting, security, and the automotive industry.

In 2024, the median offered salary increased by 17%, reaching 6.6 million soums. Top and middle management positions remain the highest paid, with offers averaging 11.7 million soums, although this has only seen a growth of 2%.

Salaries in other fields grew at a faster rate: security saw a 47% increase compared to 2023, followed by working professions at 45%, and transportation and logistics at 34%. In contrast, the insurance sector experienced a significant decrease, with the median salary falling by 37% to 5 mln soums.

Job seeker activity surged in 2024, increasing by 84% to 1.4 mln active resumes. There was a notable rise in interest among Uzbeks in working professions, insurance, transportation and logistics, as well as the automotive business—these areas experienced a twofold increase in submitted resumes.

Competition among applicants grew strongest in working professions, security, and transportation and logistics. In the IT sector, competition saw moderate growth of 15% over the year.
