NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has confirmed a $5 bn investment in Intel, marking one of the most significant endorsements yet for the struggling chipmaker’s turnaround.

The deal will see Intel integrate NVIDIA’s GPU technology into upcoming AI PCs, while NVIDIA will adopt Intel’s x86 CPUs for its data centers.

«We’re going to become a very large customer of Intel CPUs,» Huang told reporters on Thursday, as Intel’s stock jumped 23% by market close.

The move follows recent support for Intel from the U.S. government and investors including SoftBank. Analysts estimate NVIDIA’s stake will amount to roughly 4% of Intel, giving the company both financial and strategic clout.

Industry experts say the partnership could reshape competition with AMD and ARM while aligning NVIDIA more closely with Washington’s industrial policy. Still, questions remain about Intel’s troubled foundry business, which Huang said was «not part of today’s announcement.»

Huang called the collaboration a «powerful alliance,» combining NVIDIA’s AI leadership with Intel’s CPU expertise, as both companies look to shape the future of personal and enterprise computing.
