Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev have reaffirmed their commitment to increasing bilateral trade to $2 bn, following high-level talks in Islamabad.

A formal reception ceremony was held at the Prime Minister’s House in honour of the visiting Uzbek leader. The two sides held one-on-one discussions, followed by delegation-level talks focusing on trade, investment, regional connectivity, education and cultural exchanges.

Both leaders described their historical, religious and cultural ties as a strong foundation for deeper cooperation. They welcomed the activation of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council and pledged to enhance collaboration across multiple sectors.

The Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway project was highlighted as a key initiative to strengthen regional connectivity. The two countries also agreed to expand cooperation in road, rail, air and maritime transport, as well as in mining, energy, defence, tourism and education.

A joint declaration was signed, and 28 agreements and memorandums of understanding were exchanged in areas including trade, IT, health, agriculture and sports. Plaques for Tashkent Street and Babar Park were also unveiled in Islamabad.

President Mirziyoyev invited Prime Minister Sharif to visit Tashkent for the next round of talks, as both sides emphasised that the new agreements would open further economic and strategic opportunities.
