Calls Grow to Investigate Former Royal’s Trade Envoy Role over Epstein Links
A former UK business secretary has called for an investigation into Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s time as a government trade envoy following allegations he shared confidential information with Jeffrey Epstein.
Sir Vince Cable said the claims, based on documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice, were «totally unacceptable» and urged authorities to examine whether any criminal wrongdoing occurred. He called for both a police assessment and a government inquiry into how the situation was handled.
Emails included in the so-called Epstein files reportedly show Mountbatten-Windsor, who served as UK trade envoy from 2001 to 2011, sharing reports from official visits in Asia and a confidential investment brief with Epstein. The former royal has denied any wrongdoing.
Thames Valley Police said it is reviewing the material in consultation with prosecutors to determine whether a criminal investigation is warranted, but no decision has yet been made.
The allegations have intensified political pressure, with some lawmakers calling for accountability from both police and Parliament. Buckingham Palace has expressed concern and said it would cooperate with any official inquiry if required.
