Iran-Linked Hackers Access Kash Patel’s Email and Leak Photos Online

Hackers linked to Iran have accessed the personal email account of FBI Director Kash Patel, releasing photographs and messages online, according to the group and the bureau.
The group, calling itself Handala Hack Team, claimed responsibility for the breach and published a series of personal images alongside a sample of more than 300 emails, reportedly spanning 2010 to 2019.
The FBI confirmed Patel’s account had been targeted. A spokesman said steps had been taken to limit any risks, adding that the material was historical and did not contain government information.
Handala presents itself as a pro-Palestinian hacking group, though Western analysts believe it is linked to Iranian cyber units. The group has recently claimed other cyberattacks, including one targeting U.S. medical firm Stryker.
Reuters could not independently verify the leaked emails, but the account cited by the hackers matches an address previously linked to Patel in past data breaches. Google did not comment.
Cybersecurity experts say the incident reflects a broader effort by Iran-linked actors to expose and embarrass U.S. officials as tensions in the Middle East continue. Similar low-level hacks have been used in the past to leak personal data and create political pressure.
Analysts warn that further disclosures may follow, with other hacking groups signalling they could release additional material linked to senior U.S. figures.
