Ghana Part Ways With Otto Addo 72 Days Before 2026 World Cup

Ghana Football Association has dismissed head coach Otto Addo with just 72 days remaining before the start of the 2026 World Cup.
The move was confirmed on Tuesday, hours after a 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart during preparations for the tournament, which will be staged across North America next summer. Ghana had also suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria days earlier.
Addo, a former Borussia Dortmund player, returned for a second stint in March 2024 but struggled to deliver results. Despite having Premier League talents including Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus available, Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 50-year-old recorded eight wins and nine defeats across 22 matches in charge during his latest tenure.
Addo previously led Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, having earlier served as assistant to Milovan Rajevac. The team secured a 3-2 victory over South Korea but exited at the group stage following losses to Portugal and Uruguay.
Ghana, appearing at their fifth World Cup, have been drawn in Group L alongside Croatia, England and Panama, setting up a challenging campaign at next year’s tournament.
