U.S. Approves $8 Bn Aid Package for Ukraine as Zelensky Offers Talks with Putin

The United States has approved a new $8 bn assistance package for Ukraine as President Volodymyr Zelensky renewed his call for direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in an effort to end the war.
The aid package, one of the largest approved this year, includes military equipment, ammunition, air defense systems and financial support aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s ability to sustain its defense against Russian forces.
Announcing the proposal, Zelensky said he was prepared to meet Putin face-to-face and even hold negotiations in a public format if it could help advance peace efforts. The Ukrainian leader argued that direct dialogue was necessary to address key issues, including territorial disputes, security guarantees and the future of occupied regions.
Moscow has not immediately responded to the latest offer, although Russian officials have previously questioned the conditions proposed by Kyiv for any potential negotiations.
The announcement comes as fighting continues along several sections of the front line despite ongoing international diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire. Western allies have maintained support for Ukraine while urging both sides to pursue a political solution to the conflict.
The latest U.S. assistance package underscores Washington’s continued commitment to Ukraine, even as debates continue over the long-term scale of military and financial support for Kyiv.
