Dua Lipa Reportedly Pays £5,000 to Angry Palermo Locals After Outrage Over Wedding

Pop star Dua Lipa has reportedly paid £5,000 to residents of Palermo, Sicily, following complaints over disruptions caused by her lavish wedding celebrations with actor Callum Turner. The payment was intended to compensate locals affected by parking restrictions and street closures linked to the three-day event.

The couple’s wedding festivities, estimated to have cost more than £1 mln, took place at several historic venues in Palermo and attracted a star-studded guest list. However, road closures, security measures and restricted access to public spaces sparked protests from residents, who displayed signs reading «Palermo is not for rent» and «Our square is not your living room.»

Local activists argued that public areas should not be reserved for private events, regardless of their economic benefits. Palermo officials defended the celebrations, saying the high-profile wedding would bring international attention and tourism to the city.

Despite the controversy, the wedding went ahead as planned, with celebrities including Elton John, Charli XCX and Mark Ronson reportedly attending the celebrations.
