HBO’s Harry Potter Series Brings Back Fan-Favourite Character Cut from Original Films

‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ will debut December 25 on HBO Max (HBO)

HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television series has cast Peeves the Poltergeist, a beloved character from J.K. Rowling’s books who was notably absent from the original film franchise. British actor and comedian Peter Serafinowicz will portray the mischievous Hogwarts ghost in the new adaptation.

Peeves, known for causing chaos throughout Hogwarts and tormenting caretaker Argus Filch, appeared prominently in the novels but was removed from the movies despite scenes being filmed for the first installment. Director Chris Columbus later said he regretted the decision to cut the character.

The inclusion of Peeves is being viewed as a sign that HBO intends to create a more faithful adaptation of Rowling’s books. The series is planned as a seven-season retelling of the saga, with each season dedicated to one novel.

The new cast includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The series is scheduled to debut on Christmas Day 2026.
