Ukraine Launches One of Largest Drone Attacks on Russia and Crimea

Ukraine has carried out one of its biggest drone assaults of the war, targeting multiple regions across Russia and Russian-controlled Crimea in a large-scale overnight operation. Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed its air defences intercepted 660 Ukrainian drones over 12 regions, Crimea, and surrounding maritime areas, describing it as one of the largest attacks since the full-scale invasion began.
According to Russian officials, the strikes targeted infrastructure and industrial facilities, with reports of damage to a chemical plant in the Tula region, power infrastructure and sites linked to military logistics. Ukrainian media and officials said the operation was aimed at weakening Russia’s military capabilities and disrupting supply chains supporting the war effort.
The attack comes amid an intensified Ukrainian campaign of long-range drone strikes against energy facilities, oil infrastructure and military targets deep inside Russian territory. Recent attacks have also contributed to fuel shortages and power disruptions in Russian-controlled Crimea, where authorities have declared emergency measures in response to mounting economic and infrastructure pressures.
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, both sides continue to exchange heavy aerial attacks, highlighting the growing importance of drone warfare in the conflict. Russian strikes overnight also targeted several regions of Ukraine, causing civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure.
