The hit tvN reality series «The Village Barber» is returning for a second season this November with a revamped cast.
Network officials confirmed the renewal on July 13, following earlier reports that production will commence in late August. Original cast members Park Bo Gum and Lee Sang Yi are set to reprise their roles. Ko Kyung Pyo will join the line-up to replace Kwak Dong Yeon, who is unavailable for the upcoming instalment.
The premise centres on Park, who earned a national technical barbering certification during his mandatory military service. The programme follows the actor operating a countryside hair salon alongside his celebrity friends, offering haircuts, hand care and community companionship to elderly rural residents. The first season concluded on April 3, dominating Friday evening ratings and earning widespread praise for its authentic community engagement and lack of manufactured drama.
Reuniting long-time friends on screen
The casting of Ko reunites him with Park, his former co-star from «Naeil’s Cantabile» and the critically acclaimed drama «Reply 1988». Their decade-long friendship is expected to bring a comfortable, established dynamic to the programme. Ko’s addition also creates a new comedic pairing with Lee, who now transitions into a senior role among the supporting trio.
During the inaugural season, Lee earned a nail technician certification specifically for the show. He provided manicures and hand care for the villagers while Park handled the barbering and styling duties. With Kwak previously serving as the resident cook and custodian, Ko is anticipated to take on a similar supporting operational role to keep the rural barbershop running smoothly.
Indian viewers looking to catch up on the heartwarming series can stream all existing episodes of «The Village Barber» on Rakuten Viki. The streaming platform currently holds the international distribution rights for the television programme, ensuring global audiences, including those in India, will have direct access to the upcoming November premiere shortly after its domestic broadcast.
