Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor in Tashkent on October 16 to discuss preparations for Secretary of State Marco Rubio‘s upcoming visit and a major American business delegation.

Following the meeting, Gor wrote on X that more than 250 US business leaders would begin arriving in Uzbekistan on October 17, signalling growing commercial interest in the country.

«An incredible honour to call on President Mirziyoyev this evening in Tashkent, Uzbekistan ahead of Secretary Rubio’s arrival,» Gor wrote. «Incredible opportunities for both of our nations ahead!»

The talks focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States, particularly through investment projects and new economic initiatives.

Rubio’s visit to focus on investment and regional cooperation

Rubio is expected to visit Samarkand for a ministerial meeting in the C5+1 format, bringing together the United States and five Central Asian countries: Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

The meeting will address economic cooperation, regional security and opportunities to expand US investment in Central Asia.

The visit will also include the second meeting of the Uzbekistan–US Business and Investment Council, which was established to facilitate bilateral commercial projects.

During their talks, Mirziyoyev and Gor emphasised the need to develop concrete proposals ahead of the upcoming meetings and accelerate the implementation of joint initiatives.

The presidential administration described the council as an increasingly important platform for strengthening trade relations and attracting American investment.

Rubio’s visit is part of a wider diplomatic trip that also includes India. The accompanying US business delegation is considerably larger than initially announced in September, when Gor outlined plans for representatives of more than 100 American companies to visit Uzbekistan.
