Uzbekistan’s Poverty Rate Drops to 8.9%

By the end of 2024, Uzbekistan’s poverty rate declined from 11% to 8.9%, according to the press service of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, citing a joint study with the World Bank.
As a result, the number of people living below the poverty line decreased by 719,000, reaching 3.3 mn.
The most significant reduction in poverty was recorded in Bukhara region, where the rate fell from 11.8% to 8.7%. In Samarkand region, it dropped from 10.5% to 7.5%, in Namangan region from 10.4% to 7.6%, and in Karakalpakstanfrom 13.6% to 10.8%.
Meanwhile, real household incomes grew by 10.7%, averaging UZS 2.1 mn per person per month.
The largest share of income came from wages (42.6%), while earnings from entrepreneurship increased to 22.9%, and agricultural income rose to 10.7%.
